Music And Me

Hi everyone, I'm Gabriel Keller, I am a double major Business concentrated sports management and Dance. I love music and I am currently teaching myself to play the piano, I have also played the saxophone 6th grade-11th grade I have always enjoyed learning about different types of music and different types of instruments and I am excited to learn more about different cultures and how they represent music and there own unique ways.

I grew up in Spartanburg, South Carolina and I am still here to this day, I went to Chesnee Highschool and then I transferred my junior year and finished my Highschool time at Dorman Highschool I love travelling, I have been to 6 different countries throughout my life. I love to spend time with my family and friends and I also like to read in my free time.

What music Do I like right now(My go to)?

Recently this summer I tried to explore and enjoy different varieties of music then what I am used to and one album that I have not been able to stop listening to since I heard it was, "Blonde" by Frank Ocean. I was really late on listening to Frank Ocean considering he has been a top artist for years now but his music really set the tone and the vibe of my summer and I think that album really symbolized the summer after my senior year in my eyes. But one of my favorite songs from that album and I am sure you all know is, "Pink + White"

What Music Is Deeply Important To Me?

I love all different types of music but there is one band in particular that has always been apart of my life and I had always grown up listening to and that is the band, "Green Day". The reason this band is so important to me is because one of my first ever memories on this planet was me sitting in the living room with my grandmother and my mom dancing to the song, "Holiday", And also to add it is  my moms favorite musical group. But there is one song specifically that always stood out to me even since I was a little kid and that song is, " Good Riddance" the reason this song is so special to me is because every time I am in a bad mood or I am nervous for anything I have always found this song so comforting in difficult times.

What Music Didn't Stand Out To Me?

NOW... I love a lot of different types of music I have never been one to judge someone's music before listening to it myself but one song that I could never wrap my head around that I know a lot of people love was the song, "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. I do not know why but the song kind of and always has been a little creepy to me maybe its just because I am not used to there music or the fact that in my eyes it feels like there is 30 songs in that one song but it has always been a bit scattered and all over the place for me. Do not get me wrong the song does have some good moments like the amazing guitar solo but overall it is just not for me.

  1. Gabe I personally enjoyed reading your blog and Im glad I chose you for my comments assignment. The most interesting thing for me to see was that Green day is very important to you, because I absolutely love Green day and all of their work. The section that I liked the best though was the one with Frank Ocean, he is a true miracle in the music industry and I like a ton of his works. You and me have a lot of music tastes in common and I think you're going to do great in this class.

  2. I'm glad I read your blog post. It's nice to see another Green Day fan. I find it a bit shocking because you didn't strike me as someone that listened to Green Day (I mean no offense by this). However, I loved the Frank Ocean song you selected. I'm not a listener of his songs, but I might have to start getting into his music because it really does sound beautiful.

  3. Frank Ocean such a vibe, love both Blonde and Channel Orange and am sad he hasn't released new music in so long but his old stuff is so good it doesn't matter. I have really good memories of Green Day because my cousin is a huge fan and would have it blasting in their car whenever I was with them, I personally don't have them in a playlist but they are amazing. I can 100% see your reasoning for not liking Bohemian Rhapsody but I love it and to be it's because of the journey of the song, it almost feels like a whole album of itself compacted into one song with all the different beat switches and tone changes. Love your stuff.
